Unité U1296 : Radiations : défense, Santé Environnement

Unit U1296 "Radiation: Defence, Health Environment" was created outside the university wave in January 2019 under the provisional name UA8. In January 2021, as part of wave A, UA8 will become U1296 with the support of the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM), the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Service de Santé des Armées (SSA) and Université Lyon 2. U1296 is governed by a Director, Nicolas Foray, Director of Research at INSERM, and 3 deputy directors Diane Riccobono, Chief Medical Officer, (SSA), Béatrice Fervers, oncologist and epidemiologist (Centre Léon-Bérard) and Marie Préau, professor of social health psychology (Université Lyon 2).

The main mission of U1296 is to gain a better understanding of the biological consequences of exposure to radiation in particular, or to DNA-breaking agents in general, in a clinical, military, environmental, space or occupational context, by studying in particular the impact of the individual factor in the repair and signalling of DNA damage. By extension, this Research Unit also deals with aspects of the human and social sciences (risk perception, law and regulation, history of science), commercial development (partnership with numerous companies) and develops teaching projects aimed at the general public, healthcare professionals, institutional decision-makers and scientific journalists.
